Status update: David Fincher’s hotly anticipated Facebook movie, The Social Network cashed in on rave reviews and Oscar buzz this weekend, taking in $23 million. Filmgoers rated the movie highly, too, suggesting a strong performance over the weeks to come. The weekend’s other big release, an English remake of the foreign horror film Let Me In, didn’t quite catch on, scaring up only $5.3 million for eighth place. Last week’s debuts, the impossibly titled Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole and the sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, checked in at second and third place, respectively.
