An 18-year-old U.S. soldier is accused of carrying out a contract killing on a "midlevel Mexican drug cartel official," who also happened to be an informant for the DEA, the Associated Press reports. According to cops, the soldier, Michael Jackson Apodaca, was hired along with a 17-year-old to kill the "lieutenant" in the Juarez drug cartel, who was found shot eight times in May. Officials believe that the contract killing was orchestrated by another midlevel member of the cartel. The Associated Press reports that the informant lived in an upscale neighborhood in El Paso, Texas, where his neighbors included the local police chief and district attorney.
