No one was injured, but Tuesday was nevertheless a tumultuous day at Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark as critics from 12 different papers unloaded on the show. The show is still in preview performances, but critics chose to review it on the day it was supposed to have opened. “This pile-on by the critics is a huge disappointment,” the show’s spokesman said. “Changes are still being made, and any review that runs before the show is frozen is totally invalid.” Earlier, the spokesman had told critics in a letter, "We understand that you are not accustomed to having to wait this long to weigh in . . . but this show is a unique animal, and simply does not fit the traditional Broadway model.” Critics from several papers have pledged to review the show again, when it officially opens.
