Interested in lightening your wallet? The Whitney Museum could use some extra change despite the $1.6 million it raised during its annual American Art Award Gala fundraiser dinner recently. The event took place in New York’s Meatpacking District on part of a 200,000 square foot plot the Whitney hopes to develop although with an estimated budget of $680 million , they have a ways to go. With some luck and some friends in the right places, such as Diane von Furstenberg, the concept may come to fruition after all. Larry Gagosian, John McEnroe, Anh Duong, Caroline Winberg and Shala Monroque were also in attendance. During dinner, Alex von Furstenberg was given the evening’s most significant award on behalf of the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation, which has been a major player in putting the Whitney in a good position with the neighborhood.
