Well, Donald Sterling has replied to the NBA’s efforts to terminate his ownership of the Clippers, and it’s every bit as combative as you’d expect. In a 32-page letter sent to the league on Tuesday, Sterling wrote that it’s “illegal” to force him to sell, and he plans to fight the charges. “A jealous rant to a lover never intended to be published cannot offend the NBA rules,” it reads, arguing that the penalties are “draconian,” and the proceedings a “sham.” Sterling also claims that he has received offers to buy the Clippers for more than $2.5 billion. Sterling’s wife, Shelly, is planning to file a response to the NBA that makes a case for why she should be allowed to maintain her ownership stake in the team.
