Sting is set to headline the first concert at the Bataclan theater in Paris since it became the focal point of the terror attacks that killed 130 people across the city one year ago. The British rock star will perform the concert on Nov. 12, the night before the deadly siege’s one-year anniversary. A total of 89 people were killed, and hundreds of others were injured in the theater when three men, armed with rifles and explosives, stormed the venue during an Eagles of Death Metal concert, firing into the crowd and killing those trapped by the chaos. “In re-opening the Bataclan, we have two important tasks to reconcile. First, to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the attack a year ago, and second to celebrate the life and the music that this historic theater represents,” Sting said in a statement. “In doing so we hope to respect the memory as well as the life-affirming spirit of those who fell. We shall not forget them.” The Bataclan itself released a statement of hope for the theater’s future as a leading music venue rather than a symbol of tragedy. Since the bloody attacks, the theater has been entirely refurbished.
