The Supreme Court said Monday it will hear a case concerning the constitutionality of gerrymandered congressional districts in Wisconsin. The justices have accepted a Wisconsin case in which federal judges ruled the redistricting plan passed in 2011 by Republican legislators gave them too much of an advantage, skewing results so much that it violated the First Amendment. Republicans in Wisconsin argue the map’s GOP advantage is only a result of where Republicans and Democrats naturally tend to live in the state. Justices are often called to hear cases that Democrats argue aim to reduce the influence of racial minorities. The Supreme Court will hear arguments for the case in the term beginning in October.
