A suspect in the fatal shooting of an imam and another man in New York’s Queens borough was arrested Sunday night, according to a New York Daily News report. Sources said the suspect crashed into an unmarked police vehicle as officers were conducting a “brief surveillance” on him. Security footage of the Saturday afternoon murders showed a suspect walking calmly up to the two men, pulling the trigger, and fleeing the scene. The suspect was at large for most of the weekend, but he hit a bicyclist—who took note of the license-plate information—while trying to escape. One of the victims was believed to be carrying cash, but the suspect did not take that into consideration, leading officials to believe they were targeted because of their Muslim faith. “It doesn’t look like a robbery because it doesn’t look like he said anything before he shot the guys,” a police source said. “The guy just comes up behind and shoots.”
