The Taliban claimed Friday that it shot down a U.S. Air Force C-1309J transport plane that crashed and killed 11 people in eastern Afghanistan. “Our mujahideen have shot down a four-engine U.S. aircraft in Jalalabad,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid posted on Twitter. Among those killed were the plane’s crew of six U.S. military service members and five passengers, who were civilian contractors working for the NATO-led mission to train Afghan security forces. The plane crashed around midnight at a Jalalabad airport, but the cause was not immediately clear.
