What was he thinking ? An Alabama teacher has been suspended from his post after trying to teach geometry by using assassination—of the president—as an example. During a tangency lesson, a student had walked into Gregory Harrison's math class in Jefferson County's Corner High School and said "Well, if you shoot the President..." Mr. Harrison took the scenario and ran with it, saying "OK, if you shoot off his ear, that is a point of tangency." The school had initially planned just a slap on the wrist with a "long conversation" about his actions, despite the fact that his lesson prompted a Secret Service investigation (the feds found no "credible threat."). After the Birmingham News made the story public, however, the school was inundated with outraged calls over Mr. Harrison getting off so easy, and school officials suspended him. "We take this very seriously. There is no place in our society for a person to make these comments," said the district superintendant.
