A courtroom in downtown Houston became the epicenter of the death-penalty debate Monday, as a legal challenge began against executions in Texas. The presiding judge, Kevin Fine, shocked many legal experts by even hearing the case in a state where the Supreme Court has routinely denied any arguments against the death penalty. Texas has come under fire recently for cases in which executed prisoners were later found to be quite possibly innocent, such as the cases of Todd Willingham and Claude Jones.
