The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills vs. Other Real Housewives

A Hollywood split, Paris Hilton’s feuding aunts, a venerable ZIP Code—the newest Real Housewives, set to premiere next month, would appear to have it all. Gina Piccalo pre-games the melodrama.

Camille Grammer vs. Danielle Staub of New Jersey

Although some may believe Frasier star Kelsey Grammer’s now ex-wife, Camille, is this season’s Michaele Salahi, don’t let the blond hair and previous notoriety fool you: Grammer may have more in common with New Jersey’s Danielle Staub than the infamous D.C. White House crasher. While Grammer appears to be more even-tempered than Staub, the two do have some striking similarities—both are former “dancers,” and like Staub, Grammer spent her younger years in New Jersey and attended Montclair State University. The divorcees also share scorn for their exes (both of whom have since moved on), leaving the single ladies to raise their respective two children alone. And the parallels continue when it comes to their candidness about their bathroom-related activities. Staub famously exclaimed that she suffered from diarrhea for three weeks because of her fellow castmates in the explosive table-flipping first season finale of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, and Grammer became a spokeswoman for irritable bowel syndrome a decade ago. She spoke out about its debilitating effects on Today in 2000, when ex-husband Kelsey told America, “We can’t basically make a lot of plans because you never know when an episode might come on.” Tune in to see how that unfolds.

Kim Richards vs. Kelly Bensimon of New York

While Kim Richards’ niece Paris Hilton is now the most famous in the family, the new Housewife will have audiences know that this “Disney Girl” once held onto that spotlight. The middle sister between Kathy (Hilton’s mom) and fellow Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member Kyle, Richards’ career began as a child actress in the early 1970s. Based on her introductory video, Richards is resting on that former fame—saying she “did every shore there is” and did 17 Disney films—but “chose to retire to raise her kids,” despite the fact that “her fans were devastated.” Those fans of The Real Housewives of New York also will notice hints of ex-model Kelly Bensimon in this Richards sister. Both are divorced and claim to love raising their daughters, yet neither can stop talking about their glory-filled younger days of fame and fortune. It’s no coincidence, then, that they both found themselves on Bravo’s hit franchise. And seeing as the preview alludes to a limo cat fight, could we be seeing a similar “free to be you and me” meltdown?

Kyle Richards vs. Kim Zolciak of Atlanta

If Kyle Richards looks familiar, though she’d likely want you to believe it’s because she “was a child actress [her] entire life,” it’s probably because she’s appeared on every E! Paris and Nicky Hilton-related special. The California-born and -bred mother of four often starred as older sister and fellow cast mate Kim’s younger sibling on screen, and now the two are reuniting decades later on the boob tube for audiences everywhere. Though Richards portrays herself as the fun-loving L.A. girl, who, as she told Access Hollywood “wears [her] heart on [her] sleeve,” her cast mates have dubbed her “the bad girl” of the season. And though she also wears a smile on her face in addition to her heart, diamonds, and designer duds, something about Richards’ laugh and the way she lunges toward her sister in the series preview clip suggests she has a darker side, a la Kim Zolciak of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Of all the ladies this season, could she be the most likely to pull weaves (or as they call them in Beverly Hills, “extensions”) and pursue a singing career, too? We’ll be tuning in to find out.

Lisa Vanderpump vs. Dina Manzo of New Jersey

When a Real Housewives viewer sees a hairless domesticated animal, s/he’s likely to think of Gramma Wrinkles, Dina Manzo’s cat from The Real Housewives of New Jersey. The two have an incredibly close relationship that didn’t sit well with all cast mates and viewers, but Manzo may be rivaled by Beverly Hills’ import from the U.K., Lisa Vanderpump. While her accent is reminiscent of Cat Ommanney from the D.C. cast, her affinity for her pint-size, nearly bald puppy, Giggy, is much more Manzo-esque. It seems, like the former New Jersey cast member, Vanderpump treats Giggy (and her other three dogs) like her children, since her 24-year-old daughter and 18-year-old son are no longer at home. And another trait the two share, besides their puppy love, is their passion for design. Manzo worked as an interior designer and party planner, and Vanderpump designed various homes, yachts, and all of 26 bars and restaurants that she and her husband owned in London. All it takes is design, dogs, and diamonds keep these women happy.

Adrienne Maloof vs. Vicki Gunvalson of Orange County

The fact that Adrienne Maloof’s husband is a plastic surgeon is written all over her face, which is not unlike The Real Housewives of Orange County’s longest-lasting cast member, Vicki Gunvalson. Besides looking like they’ve spent some time under the knife, both Maloof and Gunvalson are incredibly business-savvy women who don’t just let their husbands make the money. Maloof, her mother, and four brothers comprise a family dynasty that owns big slices of the sports and entertainment industries, including the Sacramento Kings, Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Sweeping Palms Entertainment (film, television, and music), and the world’s largest skateboard competition, Maloof Money Cup. When she’s not running to meetings, Maloof is mother to three boys and acknowledges that as a working Beverly Hills mom, she does a lot of “ struggling and juggling,” but that her “children come first” and shopping “comes lowest.” Maloof is also a bit of the mother hen, a la Caroline Manzo of New Jersey fame, and claims that despite her 5-foot-3-inch frame, she could “take down a 200-pound man, if [she] had to.”

Bravo

Taylor Armstrong vs. Jacqueline Laurita of New Jersey

Like soft-spoken Jacqueline Laurita from The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Taylor Armstrong is an outsider in her surroundings—hailing from Oklahoma and moving to Beverly Hills seven years ago. She appears to be the weak one of the bunch, much like Laurita, but if crossed, Armstrong may pack some bite. With her “ work hard, play hard” attitude, she may have some Gretchen Rossi of The Real Housewives of Orange Country in her—as her marriage to a Texan-born venture capitalist appears to be on the rocks, some wonder if Armstrong is simply on the show hunting for her next husband. Soon enough we’ll find out if this Midwestern girl has ulterior motives.
