Sen. Bob Menendez, a senior Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told The Daily Beast on Tuesday that the deal between the U.S. and Iran is not all it’s cracked up to be for three reasons.
“Number one is that we are recognizing Iran as a threshold nuclear state. Two, that we are not ending Iran’s nuclear program. We are preserving it. Three, that we were supposed to have as one of our red lines anytime, anywhere inspections.... While under this agreement, there is a process that takes nearly a month before you would ever get access to the site. Within a month, you can clean up the site. So that’s a problem.”
Menendez would not say how he will vote. “I’m not ready to do anything until I read the agreement.”
