All is not well in newspaperland. Thursday morning at The Village Voice, both Will Bourne, the editor in chief, and Jessica Lustig, the deputy editor, abruptly left the publication. They told a staff meeting that the Voice Media Group leadership had instructed them to lay off or drastically reduce the role of five employees, and they were quitting in protest. “When I was brought in here, I was explicitly told that the bloodletting had come to an end,” said Bourne. “I have enormous respect for the staff here and the work they have been doing, and I am not going to preside over further layoffs.”
