US President Barack Obama comes in for criticism from a predecessor, Bill Clinton, over two political missteps in a forthcoming new book, the Washington Post reported on 05 November 2011. It said the first criticism was that the president did not raise the federal debt ceiling in the first two years of Obama's term, when the president's Democratic party supporters still had a majority in both houses of Congress. The other was failing to devise an effective national campaign message during the midterm elections of 2010, when the Democrats suffered sharp losses, according to the Post's account of the book, which is mainly a fierce criticism of the other US party, the Republicans. The book, Back to Work: Why We Need Smart Government for a Strong Economy, is set for publication on 08 November. The newspaper said it had obtained an advance copy.
