After militants fired at a Shiite worship site north of Baghdad late Thursday, three suicide bombers in military uniforms blew themselves up, killing at least 35 people and injuring 40 more. According to Iraqi authorities, the attack occurred at the Balad mausoleum of Sayyid Muhammad bin Ali al-Hadi—a Muslim figure from more than 1,000 years ago—as worshippers gathered at the site to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Two suicide bombers reportedly detonated near the gate, and a third moved further into the area, throwing hand grenades before activated his device near the mausoleum. No organization has taken responsibility for the attacks.
