President-elect Donald Trump hinted Wednesday that the recent attacks in Berlin and Ankara justified his controversial calls for a ban on Muslim immigrants to the U.S. When asked by reporters whether the attacks would affect his plans for a Muslim registry and crackdown on Muslim immigrants, Trump said, “You know my plans. All along, I’ve been proven to be right. 100 percent correct. What’s happening is disgraceful.” He also walked back a statement he issued in the wake of the Berlin attack lamenting that terrorists “continually slaughter Christians,” a comment that triggered alarm bells among many officials for its exclusion of other religions. On Wednesday, speaking at his Mar-A-Lago estate, Trump rephrased his original comment when confronted about it by a reporter, calling the Berlin incident “an attack on humanity.”
