President Trump’s administration has formally ended a program meant to protect the immigrant parents of U.S. citizens from deportation. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly revoked the official policy memo for the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans program late Thursday, making good on a Trump campaign promise. The program, unveiled in 2014 but stalled due to numerous legal battles before it could be enacted, would have offered deferred deportation for millions of undocumented immigrants. In a statement Thursday explaining the move, the Department of Homeland Security stated the program was canceled because there was “no credible path forward to litigate the currently enjoined policy.”
