Massive anti-government protests in Egypt have prompted the government to block Twitter, a spokesperson for the social networking site confirmed today. The ban had been widely suspected yesterday, on the first day of protests, but this is the first official word from Twitter. “We can confirm that Twitter was blocked in Egypt around 8 a.m. PT today,” said a PR member today. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton decried the move, urging Cairo to allow protesters to communicate via the internet.
