Michael Steele may soon be a general without an army: Following the departure of his chief of staff and a top fundraiser, two more people have resigned from the Republican National Committee. Republican strategist Alex Castellanos, who joined the RNC as an unpaid adviser last summer to help Steele manage its image, told CNN that he’s lost his “ability to be of service to the RNC” and said that Steele should step down, saying "I think a change in the direction now, at this point, would do the party good.” Meanwhile, New Hampshire RNC committeeman Sean Mahoney also resigned, telling Steele in a statement that “Not only has the out-of-touch, free-spending culture of Washington come to completely dominate the United States Congress, but I have watched with growing unease as the same mentality has seeped into our own national party.” However there’s good news for Steele too: The RNC had one of its best fundraising months ever in March.
