A new report from the Office of Internal Oversight Services alleges that members of a United Nations peacekeeping mission engaged in “transactional sex” with 225 Haitian women in exchange for things like food and medication. The report, which will be officially released later this month, also finds that a third of alleged sexual abuse involves minors under 18. Of the 231 women that investigators interviewed, only seven said they knew about the United Nations’ policy prohibiting sexual exploitation and none knew about the hotline to report it.
