Union Rags overtook Paynter for a win in the 144th Belmont Stakes race in New York after his trainer switched to jockey John Velazquez. The horse was a favorite to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and even the Kentucky Derby, but ended up in seventh place in the latter. “It was my dream, and it came true today,” said Union Rag’s owner, Phyllis Wyeth.
