For all the enthusiasm of South Africa's first game last Friday, the hosts faced harsh reality on Wednesday. They were beaten solidly by Uruguay, 3-0, and now next Tuesday's game against France will almost certainly be South Africa's last at this tournament. Uruguay striker Diego Forlan scored two goals, including one from the penalty spot, before Alvaro Pereira exploited some truly poor defending to add a late third. The victory sent Uruguay to the top of Group A and virtually guaranteed that it will progress to the round of 16. France and Mexico, the group's other two sides, will face off tomorrow afternoon.
