An unknown engineering problem on Saturday caused 50 nuclear missiles in Wyoming to go offline on Saturday. For about 45 minutes, communication with the nukes was disrupted, meaning that they became more difficult to launch. The military, however, maintains that complete control of the missiles was never lost. President Obama was briefed on the matter on Tuesday morning. "We’ve never had something as big as this happen," a military officer familiar with the situation told The Atlantic. Engineers have said the problem was not caused by a power outage, and they’re still investigating the matter.
