The Pentagon announced Thursday that Umm Sayyaf, the wife of a high-level ISIS leader who was killed in Syria this year, has been transferred back to the Iraqi government. Sayyaf had been detained by the U.S. military in Iraq at an undisclosed location, where she was interrogated. Her transfer suggests she will not face U.S. charges in the kidnapping and death of American hostage Kayla Mueller. “The decision to transfer Umm Sayyaf to the Iraqi government was based on the U.S. government determination that the detainee’s transfer would be appropriate with respect to legal, diplomatic, intelligence, security, and law-enforcement considerations,” read a Pentagon statement.
