Obama Makes Syria Appeal
In his primetime speech to the American public, President Obama asked Congress to postpone a vote on military action in Syria and voiced support for a diplomatic resolution that will remove Bashar al-Assad's chemical weapons. But he also made an impassioned plea outlining why we cannot stand idly by. 'When, with modest effort and risk, we can stop children from being gassed to death and thereby make our own children safer over the long run,' said Obama, 'I believe we should act.'
