A vintage Bugatti became the world’s most expensive car after reportedly selling to an anonymous “devoted connoisseur” for as much as $40 million last week. The 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic is “one of the world's most significant and valuable automobiles that has been in a private collection and rarely seen during the past four decades,” the president of Gooding & Company auction, which made the sale, said in a statement. The Butgatti is one of three in a series, one of which is owned by Ralph Lauren. Though the price of the curvy car was undisclosed, the Wall Street Journal reported the vehicle sold to the Mullin Automotive Museum in California, for between $30 million and $40 million. The museum, however, did not return the New York Daily News’ request for comment.
