Parents now have another reason to call Miley Cyrus toxic apart from her racy new music video—Wal-Mart announced Wednesday that it is pulling a line of the Disney star’s necklaces and bracelets after it was discovered that they contain high levels of the toxic metal cadmium. Wal-Mart said that while the jewelry put out by the 17-year-old Hannah Montana star is not intended for children, “it is possible that a few younger consumers may seek it out in stores.” Although cadmium is not considered dangerous in an item if it is simply worn, there are concerns that children could bite into or suck on the jewelry. Long-term exposure to cadmium, which is a known carcinogen, can cause bone softening and kidney failure. Reporters for The Associated Press tested 61 samples of the products purchased from Wal-Marts across the country and found that 53 pieces contained at least 10 percent of cadmium or higher. Wal-Mart did not reveal to the AP how many of items from the Miley Cyrus jewelry line it has sold at this time.
