The CIA and Pakistani intelligence just can’t seem to play nice. On Friday, American officials accused Pakistan’s intelligence service, known as the ISI, of deliberately blowing the cover of the CIA’s top spy in the country. As a result, the CIA was forced to rush the spy out of Islamabad, because "terrorist threats against him in Pakistan were of such a serious nature that it would be imprudent not to act." An ISI official responded Saturday: "We absolutely deny this accusation, which is totally unsubstantiated and based on nothing but conjecture." The CIA agent, who had previously held posts in Stockholm and Baghdad, may no longer be able to operate overseas. There is speculation that the ISI named the spy in retaliation for a civil lawsuit filed in New York against the head of the ISI, implicating him in the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
