The Defense Department is examining whether injured American soldiers were wrongly used in a brain-drug study. The study was intended to test whether a drug made to treat Tylenol overdoses could help soldiers in the aftermath of serious brain injury. The Pentagon wants to know whether tests—conducted by the United States Naval Medical Center in San Diego—violated human-subject research rules. Begun in 2008, the study was supposed to be completed this summer and involved 150 U.S. soldiers.
