During a press conference on Friday, White House officials reassured reporters that Ebola will be prevented from spreading within the United States and that the first Ebola case in the states (Eric Duncan, a Liberian who was diagnosed in Dallas) should not cause excessive concern. “The United States has the most capable doctors in the world, bar none,” Lisa O. Monaco, President Obama’s chief homeland security adviser, said. “The United States is prepared to deal with this crisis, both at home and in the region. Every Ebola outbreak in the past 40 years has been stopped. We know how to do this and we will do it again.” Officials did not, however, announce any new initiatives for dealing with the virus.
