The political consequences of Wisconsin’s bitter union fight keep coming. Voters are headed to the polls Tuesday for two recall elections against Democratic state senators who opposed the plan by Republican Gov. Scott Walker to strip public workers of their collective-bargaining rights. One of the state senators is being challenged by a Tea Partier who has given him a tight race despite being a political novice. Seven recall elections have already been held, and Republicans have managed to keep a one-seat advantage, down from five, foiling the effort to end their majority in the Senate. Only 20 recall elections have been held at the state level in the U.S.’s 235-year history.
