Hillary Clinton—or at least a super PAC operating for her—will need to raise the magic number of $100 million by the end of 2014. “I think the $100 million commitment would say to potential opponents, ‘Think before you jump to your death.’” In the first quarter of 2007, Clinton raised $36 million, including a $10 million transfer from her Senate campaign—putting her ahead of then-Sen. Barack Obama, but not by much. “We’ve learned our lesson,” said one top Clinton adviser. But can that amount even be raised in less than two years? The Clinton insider simply said yes and “Her entrance into the race all but clears the field.”
