Paul Ryan: Stay Pro-Life, Win Elections

Isn’t he supposed to be against government?

The famously libertarian Rep. Paul Ryan certainly favors some government intervention: in the case of abortion. Ryan said Thursday at the Susan B. Anthony List gala that the Republican Party must provide fierce opposition to abortion rights if they want to win. Ryan also talked about the GOP’s recent track record of controversial comments on rape and abortion, saying a “careless remark or ugly sign” could damage the entire pro-life cause “in an instant.” Ryan said that “our critics” are trying to talk them into “abandoning” their pro-life beliefs, but he called it an “odd strategy.” Although the group that hosts the dinner, the Susan B. Anthony List, often blacklists moderate abortion-rights politicians, Ryan urged pro-life activists to find common ground.
