Public-High-School Speaker Slut-Shames Young Women

Pam Stenzel says she can tell just by looking a girl in the eyes whether she’s promiscuous.

Motivational speaker Pam Stenzel has been on the circuit long enough to gain notoriety as one of the scariest sex educators around. She’s made a career of visiting high schools and frightening girls out of having sex—or making them feel awful about themselves if they already have. This week, she messed with the wrong students: kids at George Washington High School in Charleston, West Virginia, were subjected to her tirade against premarital relations, which included such claims as “If you take birth control, your mother probably hates you.” Two students, Katelyn Campbell and an anonymous male classmate, have filed a complaint with the ACLU, disturbed at both the content and the delivery of the speech (“Her tone was very loud,” he said. “She was making girls cry. There were pregnant girls in the audience.”) Though Stenzel did not specifically mention God in her speech this week, her abstinence-only approach has a strong evangelical flavor, and in other appearances she has asserted God’s role in sexual pleasure within the boundaries of marriage. Jezebel’s Laura Beck says it best: “Man, this woman makes me wish I had another virginity to lose.”
