According to neighbors, Tamerlan Tsarnaev's wife (not pictured) adopted the hijab after converting to Islam.

According to the U.K.'s Telegraph, neighbors of Katherine Russell (not pictured)—the widow of slain Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev—say the young wife had adopted the Islamic veil and rarely left the house after converting to Islam. The 24-year-old, who reportedly became a Muslim after her freshman year at Boston's Suffolk University, where she majored in communications but did not receive a degree. Neighbors also told the paper that Russell's father is a Navy vet and an EMT in Providence, Rhode Island, while her mother is a nurse. Russell also reportedly has two younger sisters, and a young daughter with Tsarnaev.

Russell's family confirmed her connection to the Boston bombing suspect yesterday in a statement that said they "cannot begin to comprehend how this horrible tragedy occurred" and asked for privacy. "Our daughter has lost her husband today, the father of her child," Russell's parents said in a statement. "In the aftermath of the President's Day horror, we know that we never knew Tamerlane Tsarnaev."
