If you’re pregnant, it’s probably a good idea to cut back on candy. Young pregnant women, especially those without insurance, have been finding it nearly impossible to receive treatment for their dental maladies. This is a function of a long-held unwillingness of dentists to treat pregnant women for fear of harm to the fetus (due to X-rays or local anesthesia), and consequently, possible litigation. Unfortunately, countless examples have proven that more harm is done when pregnant patients’ dental woes go untreated or self-medicated. Pick up those mouth mirrors, dentists! Pregnant women need care, too.
Some get desperate for care, relief.
