A Cuyahoga County grand jury Friday indicted Ariel Castro on a charge of murder plus more than 300 counts of rape, kidnapping and assault, prosecutors said. Castro, 52, is accused of kidnapping three women and keeping them captive in his Cleveland home for years. The indictments only cover August 2002 to February 2007. He was indicted on 139 counts of rape, 177 counts of kidnapping, seven counts of gross sexual imposition, three counts of felonious assault, and one count of possession of criminal tools. He is set to be arraigned next week. The murder charge stems from allegedly causing one of the captives, Michelle Knight, to have several miscarriages. While it remains to be seen what the ramifications of the murder charge will be, it may set a precedent for similar cases.
Charges stem from captive's multiple miscarriages.
