Girl-Centered Advocacy on the Rise Globally

Empowering girls lies at the heart of achieving global development goals.

At the end of May, 4,500 political leaders from 149 countries met in Malaysia at the Women Deliver conference, which highlighted teenage girls as the key to the future and their empowerment as essential to achieving global development goals. At the conference, speakers discussed the need to devote time to girl-centered advocacy in order to improve girls’ lives and talked about the progress of Adolescent Girls' Advocacy & Leadership Initiative (Agali), a program run out of the Public Health Institute with support from the U.N. Thanks to Agali and its partners, activists on the ground in places as far-flung as Malawi, Liberia, and Latin America are investing in girls' health and education, fighting against child marriage, and empowering girls to demand laws that protect their most basic rights.
