One third of women globally are affected by domestic or sexual violence by a partner, according to a World Health Organization review, based on studies from 1983–2010. And nearly 40 percent of women killed worldwide were murdered by their partner. Women are most at risk of violence in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, where 37 percent reported being victims of sexual or physical abuse. “Violence against women is a global health problem of epidemic proportions,” WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan said.
Perpetrated by intimate partners, according to study.
