Texas Abortion Bill Moves Forward

Will go to the House for vote next.

Here we go again. The Texas House State Affairs Committee passed the controversial abortion bill early Wednesday morning, sending it to the House of Representatives. This is the first action on the bill since the Texas legislature returned for a special session on Monday. The full house chamber will take up the bill next week. Close to 3,500 people showed up to the Capitol this week, and over 1,000 signed up to testify on the bill; however, only around 100 were allowed to speak. The bill then went to committee, where it passed 8-3 and moved on to the House;  two members of the committee were not present for the vote. It had already passed the House before being sent to the Senate, where State Sen. Wendy Davis filibustered for 11 hours and when it eventually passed, it had missed the deadline for Gov. Rick Perry to sign. He's hoping it will pass in this special legislative session.
