Prayer Group Thwarted From Service

Women of the Wall said police blocked access to holy site.

A liberal Jewish women’s prayer group, Women of the Wall, said police kept them from holding a service Monday at the Western Wall, a Jerusalem holy site. The women took their service to an adjacent plaza but said police were cooperating with their Orthodox opponents, according to Fox News. A spokesman for police said they were attempting to protect the women, as there was no way to get to the wall because it was already crowded with worshippers. Orthodox men protested the service by throwing eggs. Police arrested three protesters. The group, which was finally granted permission to pray at the Western Wall last month, has also been a target for vandals.
