A lesbian couple was attacked Saturday night near their home in Austin, Texas, in what police are calling a hate crime. The women said a man they knew from the neighborhood began following them and then yelling comments about one woman’s masculine dress. The women said that as he continued to shout slurs, the woman’s girlfriend tried to reason with the man, but then a second man showed up and allegedly cursed at the women and threw a punch at one of them. The two men then allegedly dragged the women apart and pressed them up against a car while beating them up. The men scattered when they thought they saw police. They allegedly ripped one woman’s shirt off and stole the women’s phones and purses. The police are still searching for the men.
