Iowa Court: Ok to Fire Woman for Being ‘Irresistible’

Dentist told her that if “she saw his pants bulging, she would know her clothes were too revealing.”

This is really not a good week to be a woman, um, anywhere in the U.S. The Iowa Supreme Court on Friday upheld the firing of a woman for being “irresistible.” No really, that happened. Melissa Nelson lost the job she held for 10 years as a dental assistant after dentist James Knight told her clothes were too tight and if “she saw his pants bulging, she would know her clothes were too revealing.” How charming. The pair started texting until Knight’s wife found out about it and demanded he fire Nelson, which he did. An all-male jury had ruled that employees who are seen as “irresistible attraction” can be fired. The Supreme Court upheld the ruling, saying that Knight’s decision was based on emotions not gender.
