Women Feeling Slighted by Dept. of Energy

Female-owned small businesses have attracted few direct contracts.

While the president has made strides to help women in small business, the Department of Energy does not seem to be following suit. "We're out there," Jennifer Dickerson, owner of environmental and safety consulting firm EnRep. Inc., told Bloomberg. "We're waving our arms, we're ready, but the department isn't ready." Out of of 13,000 contracts awarded to small businesses by the Department last year, only six were reserved for female-owned companies. Part of the problem involves the cap on contract values for such businesses to be eligible, previously at three to five million dollars—now increased, or, in the case of defense spending, completely unlimited.
