She didn’t even win. In a hard-fought race for the mayorship of Los Angeles, former Democratic candidate Wendy Greuel, who lost to Eric Garcetti (also a Democrat), now sits on a pile of debt. Greuel spent $518,000 more than she had raised, according to the Los Angeles Times. The debt may complicate future runs at office. In a breakdown of the funds, her campaign owed more than $203,000 to Patricia Duchene, who printed literature for the campaign, and more than $130,000 to a political consulting firm, in addition to a personal loan she took out.
