Two people, both male, were arrested Thursday in connection with the death of Rehtaeh Parsons, the Nova Scotia girl who killed herself earlier this year after being bullied online. Rehtaeh’s mother, Leah Parsons, said four boys had sexually assaulted her daughter when she was 15, and then she was allegedly relentlessly mocked by her classmates after a photo of the alleged attack was circulated online. Two years later, Rehtaeh hanged herself and was taken off life support a few days later. The identity and ages of those arrested were not yet released. Leah Parsons said she feels “a little bit of relief” after the arrests, which come just one day after Nova Scotia legislators pushed through a bill that will implement tougher penalties for cyberbullying.
