Woman: Court Mandated Contact With Rapist

She says legal relationship violates her rights.

A Massachusetts woman says the state has forced her into a relationship with her rapist after the man requested visitation rights with the child he fathered. In 2009, 20-year-old Jamie Melendez raped the victim when she was 14, and he was sentenced to 16 years of probation, which includes family court order. The woman says that the court order violates her rights since she does not want a relationship of any kind with Melendez. According to The Huffington Post, “the woman’s argument states that she cannot decide whether or not to participate in these family court proceedings without risking losing custody of her child.” This order is unprecedented, according to her complaint.
