In a profile with The New York Times, Catherine Russell, the ambassador at large for global women’s issues, says that making Washington pay attention to women’s issues may be more of a battle than in the past. Since she was confirmed into her position last month, she’s worked for Secretary of State John Kerry, whose focus right now is on Middle East conflicts in countries such as Syria. Russell also says she has recovered from a minor stroke last December. Former secretary of State Hillary Clinton started the position back in 2009.
