Less Fuss Rules Fashion Week

‘No one wants to look like they’re trying too hard.’

Gone are the days of the heavily made-up, blowouts, hello “downtown cool” during the spring 2014 Fashion Week in New York. Apparently “nobody wants to look like they’re trying too hard” in today’s fashion, and “nothing says you’re trying too hard like a blowout,” according to Britt Aboutaleb, editorial director of the beauty site The less-maintenance, gender-bending look dominated Fashion Week, with the low ponytail with a headband championed in Victoria Beckham’s collection being the perfect example. As for makeup, a wash of white eye shadow, orange lips—and just a thin layer of matte foundation.
